Drawn First rereads ordinary things — a pencil, a pyramid, the veins of a leaf — through three clues: structure, purpose, and order. It starts with what people made, moves through nature, the cosmos, and history, and arrives at a life. The order runs from the outside in, and no conclusion is pushed at the reader up front.
