Joseon, a hack called clan rule
Joseon's institutions were built to check one another. Across sixty years of clan rule not one of them was changed. Only now offices could be bought and sold, and the seats that were meant to check power were filled from a single family. Intact outside, altered within — that is a hack.
| 첫째 단서 — 구조 | Joseon was built so that king and officials checked each other. The censorate checked the throne, the state exam chose officials, and three revenue systems ran the country. If one tipped, the others were meant to hold it. |

What fell was not the institutions. It was what had been running inside them.
